The mission of the industrial rehabilitation program at Greensboro Orthopaedics is to provide a comprehensive menu of programs to our customers to restore function, improve productivity and employee morale and to reduce overall costs. These programs are customized to meet the individual needs of our patients, the employers of our service area, the insurance carriers, the case managers and the legal representatives of all our clients. These programs are priced competitively and reflect value to the payer in return for the services they receive. Our programs include work conditioning, functional capacity evaluations, job site analysis and internal case coordination. Work Conditioning is an intensive, goal-oriented program specifically designed to restore an individual’s systemic, neurological, musculoskeletal (strength, endurance, movement, flexibility and motor control) and cardiopulmonary functions. The objective of the Work Conditioning Program is to maximize and/or restore the client’s physical capacity and function to a level suitable for return to work. Functional capacity evaluations (FCEs) are intensive, short-term (usually one day) evaluations that focus on the major physical tolerance abilities related to musculoskeletal strength, endurance, speed and flexibility. Results are compared to the physical demands of the job, and recommendations are made regarding return to work and/or further treatment options. A job site analysis is an on-site evaluation of the physical demands of a particular job. The analysis involves a systematic review of individual tasks, videotaping or photography of the tasks and measurements of the forces and distance involved. The can be used with physically demanding jobs to identify the physical capabilities a worker needs to be able to due to return to work and also to help workers “work smarter, not harder” by performing required tasks in the safest manner possible. They can also be done from an ergonomic perspective to help reduce stress on the body and ultimately reduce injuries and costs associated with these stresses. Internal case coordination involves frequent reviews of the patient’s progress and rehabilitation program, assisting with return to work issues and coordinating comprehensive care with the health care team. The industrial rehabilitation program at Greensboro Orthopaedics is an efficient, cost-effective and comprehensive program to return injured workers to the previous level of function in the safest, fastest way possible.
